METANOIA STUDENTS BECOME COMMUNITY PLANNERS

On October 21, Metanoia's Young Leaders and Civic Leaders became community planners through a partnership that Metanoia is building with Clemson University's Landscape Architecture Program.  Clemson Graduate Student Monica Ezell is working with Metanoia to develop a community plan for our neighborhood.  On this particular afternoon, students took on planning for the largest piece of undeveloped land in our community - the former Navy Tank Farm on the southern end of our neighborhood.  Students were given a rough layout of the parcel and then tools to create parks, homes, and stores.  Seated at working group tables around the room, students laid out ball fields, walking trails, and beautiful residential streets where they might hope to live one day.  At one table, the idea of a Chinese Food Restaurant took hold and became a centerpiece of the development. (who doesn't want to walk down the street for good Chinese now and then?)

"I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with the children." said Ms. Ezell, "They were very welcoming and receptive and had creative ideas for the community.  I feel that they definitely have a clear vision for what they would like to see in their neighborhood.  Their enthusiasm truly inspires me!  Thanks so much for this wonderful opportunity."
