Metanoia helps community residents discover and grow their financial assets through a variety of financial counseling opportunities. We partner with the Charleston Area Community Development Corporation to offer 15-week financial literacy classes during the spring and fall at St. Matthew Baptist Church. Classes provide instruction on budgeting, credit counseling and the process of homeownership. Since fall 2008, these classes have graduated more than 250 individuals with stronger financial literacy skills.
For those whose financial standing may put them a bit closer to homeownership, Metanoia offers a day-long homebuyer education class in partnership with the Charleston Homeownership Resource Center. These classes occur twice annually in our community and elsewhere in the region monthly. They teach the fundamentals of purchasing a home, including the process of obtaining a loan, identifying a property and closing on a home.
Finally, Metanoia also offers intensive one-on-one financial literacy counseling with a HUD-certified financial literacy counselor. This counseling is available to any individual who attends one of the classes mentioned above or to others upon request. One-on-one financial literacy counseling enables individuals to look more in depth at their own credit scores and budget to determine important next steps to discovering and growing financial assets.
