Charleston Mayor's Office and Lowcountry Housing Trust brought Mari to talk with North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey and City of Charleston Community and Economic Development Heads regarding her nationally respected work.  She is known for popularizing the term Food Desert to reflect densely populated areas where healthy food is very difficult to obtain.

Mari was recently featured on TED, a global speaking platform using the Internet and videos of speeches to share "ideas worth spreading."
